Slew…P! Slee…T! “Yuck!”
At first it feels slippery. With each step you sink into the muck as it surrounds your boots. Every time you lift one of your feet you feel the resistance of the muck and the vacuum pulling at the sole of your boot.
Carefully you step again into the muck.
You slip, suddenly and surprisingly you are stable. You try to lift your other foot but the resistance and the weight of the muck quickly remind you how sore your leg muscles have become.
Abruptly your boot is released and you wonder if the sole was ripped off this time.
Tired, yet bravely, you put your foot down again almost expecting to feel the muck between your toes. But its OK, although it feels like they weigh 10 pounds each – your boots are still intact.
Looking around you wonder; “Why am I here? What an awful spot to be in, how am I going to get out? I’m so glad I haven’t lost the sole of my boot yet?”
Exhausted you turn to those around you and say; “I’ve had enough. Please get me out of here.” But chances are they can’t get to you to help.
Embarrassed, you recognize the ironic metaphor you physically find yourself in so closely parallels the spiritual situation you found yourself in when you reached out to Jesus.
You were stuck and you recognized you needed a savior. Only one person can do that – Jesus.
Remember who is with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you?
You turn to Him again and ask Him to take over; “Please get me out of here.”
He smiles at you, turns and takes the next step as you follow.
Astonished you realize; “Hey He’s taking me in the same direction I was already going. What’s going on? Hey, Jesus!… Where are we going?
He doesn’t look back to see if you are following, He knows when you are there and when you are not.
Slowly your pain numbed mind understands. “He must have wanted me to go this way all along.”
With Jesus, even when you find yourself in trouble – ALL things are possible!
His peace and grace belong to you.
